Xiaomi will be launching the flagship Mi 11 series as the successor to the Mi 10 smartphones. According to the latest leak from China, the Mi 11 and Mi 11 Pro will likely launch in January 2021. Both these smartphones will come powered by the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 SoC.
Based on earlier reports, the company might tease these upcoming flagship smartphones during the Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit 2020 event scheduled from December 1 to December 2. While the company hasn’t mentioned the Mi 11 smartphones, Xiaomi’s Lei Jun is confirmed to join this year’s Snapdragon Tech Summit event.
Xiaomi to reportedly launch Snapdragon 875-powered Mi 11 series in January 2021
As per the source, the upcoming flagship smartphones from Xiaomi have been sent to China’s TENAA for certification. If the company is planning to launch the Mi 11 and Mi 11 Pro in January 2021, they might appear on the TENAA database in the next few weeks.
Even the Mi 10 smartphones, launched in February this year, were initially announced during the 2019’s Snapdragon Tech Summit event. With the upcoming Mi 11 series, the company might be following the same tradition. However, Xiaomi won’t be revealing complete details months ahead of the launch.
With record shipments in Q3 2020, Xiaomi has surpassed Apple to become the world’s third-largest smartphone brand. The company has registered a 34.9-percent year-over-year (Y-o-Y) growth and captured a 12.1-percent market share. By launching the Mi 11 series early, Xiaomi could eat into Samsung’s market share in the flagship category.
The next-gen flagship smartphones might even launch as Mi 20 & Mi 20 Pro
Going by the previous rumors, Samsung also plans to launch the Galaxy S21 or Galaxy S30 smartphones in January 2021. As usual, the Korean giant will be launching its flagship smartphones with the Snapdragon chipset in the US and China. Since there is no official announcement from Xiaomi, the rumored Mi 11 and Mi 11 Pro might even launch as Mi 20 and Mi 20 Pro.
The leaks also suggest the Mi 11 smartphones to feature a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera sensor with a 0.8μm pixel size. On the other hand, the Pro moniker will sport a Quad HD resolution display with 120Hz refresh rate support. As seen on the current-gen Mi flagship smartphones, the Mi 11 smartphones will also sport a punch-hole selfie camera on the front.
Both of these smartphones should be running on the latest Android 11-based MIUI 12 out of the box. Initially, the company could be limiting the availability of the 2021 flagship smartphones to just its home country, China. If everything goes as per the plan, the official announcement about the Mi 11 smartphones might come out in less than 24 hours.
