GIRLS COVER UP

Gorgeous Sun Page 3 girls recreate classic poses from Playboy Magazine’s heyday

BOOBS, bunnies and babes were the basic elements behind Playboy’s classic covers – and the formula is still going strong after more than 60 years. The front of the men’s magazine has been setting tongues wagging from its first issue back in 1953 featuring Marilyn Monroe, and since then it has had countless celebrity cover stars.

They include Dolly Parton, who starred on the front of the October 1978 issue wearing Playboy bunny gear. And the country star says she’d love to pose for Playboy again to mark her 75th birthday next year. So taking our cue from Dolly, we invited former Page 3 girls Rhian Sugden, Danielle Sharp and Danielle Sellers to recreate their favourite Playboy covers from years gone by.

DANIELLE says: “Playboy definitely inspired and played a role in my career. The old iconic covers were glamorous and tasteful rather than trashy.

“I would do Playboy as long as it was a fun, tasteful shoot. I’d like to leave a little to the imagination, though. I love that Dolly wants to do Playboy at 74. It’s really cool and I think people would love it. I bet it would go viral on social media – could you imagine?

“I love my Sun cover shot. The original was taken at the end of the 1960s and I love that style. It reminds me of that vintage pin-up style which is so glamorous.

“I guess at the time this cover was probably considered a bit cheeky. I think it’s funny that we don’t see anything like this in magazines any more but girls are creating their own content online that isn’t too dissimilar.”

Danielle Sellers, 24

Recreates Elle Macpherson's famous cover from May 1994

DANIELLE says: “I wouldn’t say Playboy has had a direct effect on my career but it has definitely changed the world of glamour modelling.

“I’d do Playboy if they asked but I wouldn’t do fully nude – although if it were one of their glam celeb shoots then I’d do it!

“If you’re getting asked to do Playboy at 75 then I’d be pretty happy. If I was that age and Iooked the part then I’d want to do it too.

“I think old-school Hollywood glamour nude pictures look so beautiful. I’d much rather see this kind of stuff on the shelves than some of the other lads’ mags which just look trashy.”

Rhian Sugden, 33

Recreates Pamela Anderson's famous cover from February 1999

RHIAN says: “Playboy was always the top of the game when it came to glamour and I think to be offered it or to be able to do it is a big deal.

“It’s a huge, iconic magazine and I would do it if I was asked. It’s stylishly done and something to tell the grandkids about.

"I think Dolly looks great and good for her if she wants to do it now. I hope when I’m 75 I’d still feel confident enough to bare all.

“I love the Pammie cover because it’s just simple glamour and she oozes sex appeal, although I think she makes everything look sexy.”
