Critics who witnessed the movie's debut at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival have told of the "atmosphere that chills to the bone."

Actress Rebecca Hall plays Beth, the widow in question, who lives in an already-eerie remote lake house.

The property has sentiment, after having been built by her husband, before his unexpected suicide.

Yet things take a hugely sinister turn when Beth discovers images of a similar-looking woman to herself on Owen's phone, before disturbing occurrences and findings which suggest Beth may not be alone in their home.

Website IndieWire has dropped huge hints of the jump-in-the-seat scenes fans are set to expect.

It states the American flick “breaks the rules of jump scares” which “arrive without any warning whatsoever.”

It also warns of a "jolt that seems to last for 15 seconds."

Yet the conclusion of the movie has not yet been revealed - leaving fans on very nervy tenterhooks.

Director David has told of the thinking behind the horrifying plotline, and told Deadline magazine: “I joke that the script followed me home and wouldn’t leave me alone.

“I’m always interested in getting some kind of late-night spiral of anxiety on camera.”

Actress Rebecca added to the same publication: "“I suppose I do late-night anxiety well.

"I found it generally frightening to read. I felt very alongside the character when I was reading it and made me want to start acting it out."

Another dubbed the film: "A supremely satisfying, fresh take on the haunted house."

A third continued: "This had the hairs on the back of my neck standing at attention.

"Rebecca Hall is fantastic, Sarah Goldberg is a phenomenally supportive best friend, and there’s some deep trauma & prevailing hope explored here. "Really strong horror."
