Thomas Burgess’ new baby Sophie helped him – but he can’t wait to play again

THOMAS Burgess cannot wait to break his routine after finding life in lockdown child's play - and help show Super League how it is done.

The England star has had good reason to settle into a rhythm in the shape of new daughter Sophie.

But now it is time to add his day job to the schedule as he gets playing again with South Sydney Rabbitohs.

And he hopes the NRL can point the way for Super League to come back, while pushing the 13-a-side code further in to the sporting landscape.

Prop Burgess said: "I've actually been doing fine in isolation as I'd just moved house, so I've had my hands full and when you’ve got a baby there’s always something to do.

"But I've definitely realised that routine is very important. I’ve got into a routine of getting up with Sophie, giving her her breakfast, taking the dog for a walk, exercising and repeating it all again.

"However we can’t wait to play now. We’ve had two weeks of just bashing each other at training, so it’s time to start the competition back up.

"And it’s great how the NRL has taken a leap forward for the game. Hopefully this will jump start the rest of the rugby league world and all sports for that matter."

Thomas faces NRL champions Sydney Roosters today and will have brothers Sam and Luke looking on.

Twin George, though, will be watching on TV as the Wigan man waits for when he will be able to play again.

And the 28-year-old admits he has been missed from life down under.

He added: "I speak to George a lot. We are very close obviously being twins so every day I’ll try and contact him whether it’s FaceTime or WhatsApp.

"I suppose it helps now with all the technology we have but I definitely miss seeing and being with him and his family in person.

"Also I miss seeing the kids grow up but it’s all just a chapter in life I suppose and we’ll be reunited at some point."
