Haydock Tips: Racecard, analysis and betting preview for the feature Betway Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Haydock

THE fillies are top of the charts at Newmarket in the 1000 Guineas, but Haydock has a hit lined up itself with the Group 3 Brigadier Gerard as strong a race as you'll see for the grade.

There are some horses sure to improve into bigger and better animals this season and our man Callum Jamieson takes a closer look.

The ground will play an important part in this race, and it looks like the rain may have arrived on Merseyside and Haydock Park for the weekend.

That is good news to the ears of Sir Michael Stoute and his vastly improved Sangarius who has not been seen since his coming of age win at Royal Ascot last season.

He skipped Newmarket on Friday to come here today, with his trainer likely to have preferred this ten furlong trip as well as the hope of a drop of rain or two.

The Newmarket race looked a lot easier than this so in a way the gamble may have backfired and I'd be taking him on at the prices here, even if Stoute has started the season in fine style.

Mark Johnston is another who has begun with a bang and his Elarqam will be vying for favouritism. The track and trip is right up his street.

But he took a run to get going last season and you would imagine they have bigger and better targets in the coming months for this son of Frankel. Again others make more appeal at the odds.

And the one I really fancy to bounce back in a big way is Hughie Morrion's TELECASTER who looked extremely exciting last year before losing his way from the Derby onwards.

But a long break should have done him the world of good and he should now be physically and mentally a better horse, allowing him to build on his impressive Dante win, of which the form was very good.

Race of the Day Weekly Profit & Loss (£1 Stake)

+2.50

He progressed at a rapid rate of knots across his first three starts and there should be so much more to come. He's been pleasing at home and all signs point to this being the perfect starting point.

It could be die or die for him and Morrison would not be sending him not fit enough to do himself justice.

Bangkok has all the traits of a horse that will thrive at four. He is a big danger for the Andrew Balding team who have started the season in style.

King Ottokar should not be discounted especially with a bit of dig in the ground.

While John Gosden can never be ignored and his Lord North should progress into a smart middle distance type this season.
