Chelsea joined by Real Madrid in £30m Gabriel transfer race as Zidane sees Lille defender as Upamecano alternative
CHELSEA have reportedly been joined by Real Madrid in the race for Lille star Gabriel.
Spanish news outlet AS claims the Brazilian centre-back, 22, is a £30million target for both the Blues and Los Blancos.
He has enjoyed a great season with Lille in Ligue 1, making 24 appearances.
And Gabriel is believed to have caught Frank Lampard’s eye after two strong performances against Chelsea in the Champions League last year.
Lamps apparently believes Gabriel is the man to give his backline some much-needed steel.
But Chelsea now face competition from Real Madrid as they look to add a new defender this summer.

Zinedine Zidane’s preferred target is RB Leipzig ace Dayot Upamecano.
But the Germans are demanding a whopping £54m, while Bayern Munich are also ready to compete for his signature.
Real are therefore looking at other options and Gabriel is understood to be high on their wish list.
Chelsea and Real aren’t the only teams interested in the youngster, with Arsenal strongly linked in recent weeks.

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is also thought to have thrown his hat in the ring.
But Chelsea could be in pole position as they are also keen on Gabriel’s Lille teammate Victor Osimhen.
The Nigerian forward has scored 18 times this season and Gabriel could prefer a move to Stamford Bridge knowing a familiar face will be joining him there.
