With the loss of ticket sales and television revenue, the cost of transfers could be driven down as a result.

But still Serie A giants Napoli - who are awaiting the outcome of how the Italian campaign will be decided - are refusing to drop their asking price for defender Koulibaly.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli bosses will consider selling the for the Senegal international, but will demand at least £90m.

It comes after they were forced to drop their initial price tag by £20m, but will budge no further.

Liverpool and Manchester United are joined by Real Madrid in the race for the centre-back.

But it is understood Liverpool - who paid a world record £75m for Virgil van Dijk in 2018 - are favourites to land the 28-year-old.

The European champions are said to be offering Dejan Lovren as part of the package to sign Koulibaly, giving them the advantage over their rivals.

Reports in Italy signal that Koulibaly favours a move to Italy over Spain, with United said to be in constant contact with the player.

It is claimed Napoli have already began looking for replacements at centre-back, with Barcelona's Samuel Umtiti a target.

Koulibaly has 21 appearances this season, and caught the eye of Premier League clubs during his Champions League performances against Liverpool.
