Callum Hudson-Odoi joins Chelsea team-mates for training return days after arrest on suspicion of rape

CALLUM HUDSON-ODOI has been cleared to join his Chelsea team mates for training despite his arrest on suspicion of rape.

The winger underwent a coronavirus test on Monday and was then allowed to start phase one of preparations for restarting the Premier League season next month.

Hudson-Odoi, 19, has been released on police bail and it was feared he may have picked up coronavirus in his dealings with the authorities over the weekend.

He was arrested after a woman who went to his house at the weekend phoned the police complaining she felt ‘unwell’.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard had a meeting with club medics yesterday morning ahead of the planned return.

Hudson-Odoi was given the nod to start working as part of the small groups permitted at this stage.

The squad came together for the first time in more than nine weeks on Tuesday as training is stepped up.

The Premier League hoped to start playing matches by the middle of next month but the date is likely to be pushed back a week.

Chelsea tested their squad on Monday and that included veterans Willian and Pedro to suggest the two vastly experienced players are set to sign new deals.

The two wingers are out of contract at the end of June but boss Lampard has already stated he wants them to stay.

Putting them through coronavirus testing is a clear sign that Chelsea want them to hang around for the extension of this season and hopefully beyond.

Lampard has already moved to give understudy keeper Willy Caballero a new deal.

Chelsea have triggered the extension clause in his contract. He too was due to leave on June 30 but will now be staying on for a further 12 months minimum.

Lampard has been impressed with the way Caballero, 38, stood in for first choice keeper Kepa when he was dropped earlier in the season.

France World Cup striker Olivier Giroud has agreed a one year extension to his contract too to bolster Chelsea’s strike force as they prepare to play through the summer and see out the remaining nine Premier League fixtures.
