Man Utd flop Alexis Sanchez blasts Jose Mourinho as he claims ‘atmosphere wasn’t healthy’ under Special One

ALEXIS SANCHEZ has claimed that a negative atmosphere that Jose Mourinho created at Manchester United is one of the reasons why he has failed to succeed at Old Trafford.

The Chilean forward joined the Red Devils from Arsenal in a swap deal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan in January 2018, but he has flattered to deceive at the Theatre of Dreams.

Prior to being shipped off on a season-long loan to Inter Milan, the 31-year-old had scored just five goals in 45 games for United in all competitions.

And he has stated that the Special One's management style was one he struggled to get to grips with, though he has hailed him as one of the world's best coaches.

Sanchez only played under Mourinho for 11 months as the Portuguese gaffer was sacked in December 2018 following a 3-1 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield.

In quotes that have resurfaced from Sanchez in an interview with the BBC last year, he said: "I say things as they are and in my opinion.

"Mourinho is one of the best coaches in the world in the way that he coaches, how he studies videos, the way he goes about things.

"But then, within the group there was that feeling that you were in the team then out.

"Sometimes I didn't play, then I did, then I didn't and as a player you lose confidence, each player lost their confidence, do you understand?

"And then an atmosphere was created that wasn't healthy. Sometimes I'm playing well and I score a goal and he took me off. And I'd say, 'I love football, I love football.'

"I've played football since I was five and if I have the ball taken away from me, it's as if I lose my joy. I'm like that."

Sanchez's future at United remains in question with the two-time Copa America winner unlikely to sign for Inter permanently after another disappointing campaign.

He has chipped in with just one goal and three assists in 15 games, but Roma are reportedly ready to offer him a second chance in Serie A.

A return to South America could also be on the horizon after the club president of Universidad de Chile stated he has spoken with the player.
