Chelsea considering summer transfer for Mauro Icardi as they monitor on-loan Inter striker’s situation at PSG

CHELSEA are reportedly monitoring striker Mauro Icardi's situation at Paris Saint-Germain as they weigh up a summer transfer.

Icardi, who is owned by Inter Milan, joined PSG on an initial loan deal last summer and the French champions have the option to make the move permanent for around £54.4million.

However, the Argentine forward would have to 'endorse' the move and Chelsea are among the teams considering an approach if the transfer falls through.

Icardi and wife and agent Wanda Nara reportedly wouldn't be against going back to Italy but a return to Inter looks unlikely.

In an interview with Chi magazine, Nara admitted: "I don't know if next year we will live in Milan or Paris.

"In football you never know what will happen."
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Chelsea are said to have taken note of the 27-year-old's situation, with Real Madrid and Juventus also keeping an eye on developments.

Icardi has been in sensational form in the French capital, with 19 goals in 28 appearances this season.

But he was left on the bench in PSG's first leg defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last-16 and that decision could force him to rethink his future at the Parc des Princes.

Reports suggest PSG are almost certain to activate their option to buy Icardi, with the forward seen by sporting director Leonardo as the long-term replacement for Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani, who looks set to leave the French side when his contract runs out this summer.

Chelsea are looking to bolster their front line with unsuccessful approaches for Cavani and Dries Mertens mooted in the January transfer window.
