YOU WISH, OLE

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Man Utd transfer wishlist including Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland and Matthijs de Ligt

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's could have a big summer in the transfer window on his hands.

The unexpected break in the season has given clubs the time to assess the market more thoroughly than ever before.

Sancho and Haaland should be top of Solskjaer's wishlist

More importantly, the likes of Solskjaer have had the chance to put in place some concrete plans ahead of what could be a hectic and shortened transfer period.

Here, Man Utd supporter Tom McDermott gives the five names he’d like to see on Solskjaer’s transfer wish-list.

JADON SANCHO

United are trying to entice the winger with a bumper pay packet and the iconic No7 shirt.

Sancho is known to favour a move to a club that can offer him Champions League football next season.

And before the current campaign ground to a halt, United were in good form and nicely positioned in fifth in the Premier League.

That would be enough to secure a spot at Europe's top table thanks to neighbours City's two-year ban.

Ultimately when this type of deal is done, the player and agent will talk about a “footballing project”.

But what they really mean is how much they are likely to receive financially.

United are capable of offering a lot, regardless of Champions League qualification.

Grealish was aware of United’s interest last January and if reports are true, a deal could be concluded as soon as Aston Villa’s Premier League fate is decided.

The Villa midfielder is British, with his best years ahead of him and has taken to life in the Premier League brilliantly, given that he’s doing so in a struggling team.

The question is, has his behaviour during lockdown scuppered any chance of a move?

ODION IGHALO

If United don’t sign another younger striker, then why not try to conclude a deal for one that is already at the club on loan?

Ighalo has settled in superbly since his temporary move in January, and has not just contributed with goals, but clever link-up play.

The sensible option might be to extend the Nigerian’s time at the club for another season, by which point Mason Greenwood would be ready to feature more regularly.

MATTHIJS DE LIGT

The former Ajax man was linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer but opted for Juventus instead.

His first season in Serie A probably hasn’t gone as well as he’d hoped, which means he’s being linked with another transfer for the second successive summer.

United are well stocked in the central defensive department.

But you wonder if Paul Pogba heads back to Turin whether De Ligt could be used as part of the deal and head in the opposite direction.

ERLING HAALAND

Borussia Dortmund wouldn’t let two of their best players leave in the same window.

But if they did manage to keep hold of Sancho, United should turn their attention to one of Europe’s finest young strikers.

Haaland has only been with Dortmund since January but such is the impact he’s made, a big fee this summer would only turn into an astronomical one in 12 months.

The chances are slim, but in the end, money will talk.
