BAYER LEVERKUSEN sporting director Rudi Voller has admitted that Kai Havertz could leave in the summer, amid interest from Manchester United.

The 20-year-old is one of Europe's brightest young talents and has drawn interest from the continent's biggest clubs with his performances in the Bundesliga.

Leverkusen were able to hold on to their much-coveted playmaker last summer despite reported interest from the likes of United and Liverpool.

But they may not be so lucky this time around, with German legend Voller telling TV show, 100% Bundesliga - Football at Nitro: "I am glad that we still held [on to Kai Havertz] this year.

"We'll see how it looks in summer. He still has a contract until 2022 - these are, of course, the classic facts.

"There was already interest in the summer, but we told him that it would be good for him to stay with us for another year. And that was the right decision.”

Despite the list of Havertz's potential suitors being seemingly endless, former Tottenham midfielder Steffen Freund, also a panellist on the show, believes that the seven-cap international should stay put.

He said: "I know it's a lot about money, but I would advise him to stay at Bayer Leverkusen for another season.

"Bayer Leverkusen is under no pressure because it is a long-term contract. I also know that Rudi Voller recommends that to him.

"But then comes the pressure with consultants, large clubs that can also win titles, which is relatively rare with Leverkusen. Then it is just too good at some point [to stay at] Leverkusen. But why not another year?”

United secured the £55million signing of Bruno Fernandes last month but have continued to be linked with creative midfielders.

Jack Grealish and James Maddison have been mentioned, but the Old Trafford side have long held an interest in the £80million-rated Leverkusen ace.

Liverpool also have Havertz on their radar, as they look to add even more creativity to their midfield.

Havertz has seen his productivity dip a little this season, as he attempts to follow up on his phenomenal 2018-19 campaign.

The German scored 20 goals and assisted a further seven in all competitions last season - but has so far only managed six goals this time around.

He has begun to look his best again of late, however, ahead of his side's Europa League round of 32 clash with Porto at the BayArena tonight.
