Derek has been in intensive care ever since - and is still unable to communicate with his family.

As the weeks go on with no improvement, Kate told fans she is trying to keep going for their kids, 14-year-old Darcey and Billy, ten.

Celebrating the final Clap for Carers on Thursday, Kate said: "I felt the tears come to think it’s coming to an end while our fear for Derek goes on.

"But even if we don’t clap next Thursday it won’t diminish my eternal thanks to all in the #NHS. They are keeping Derek alive & every one of them is fighting as hard as Derek is to give us the chance to be reunited.

"Hope has to keep us all going doesn’t it? I am having to find new ways of staying strong everyday for Darcey & Billy, as I know Derek would want me to.

"It’s not easy but when I think of how hard Derek is fighting & the bravery of all in the #NHS it helps."

Derek, 52, is continuing to fight for his life in a coma.

Kate's GMB co-stars Ben Shephard and Charlotte Hawkins told how they are "praying" Derek "will pull through" as they updated viewers on his condition.

Ben previously revealed that Kate calls her husband in intensive care every night, but has "no idea" if he is able to hear her.

Derek, who married Kate in 2005, was taken to hospital on 30 March, where he tested positive for coronavirus - which has so far claimed the lives of more than 37,000 people across the UK.
