The campaign urges Brits to go outside at 8pm every Thursday and clap to show their appreciation for our frontline carers at this worrying time.

Cheers and applause were heard up and down the country, with some of Britain's biggest stars taking to Instagram to reveal that they had also done their bit for the cause.

Peter stood with his family outside his home as he backed the meaningful campaign.

Taking to Instagram, the dad-of-four wrote: "Thank you NHS and all the key workers up and down the country. We are so very grateful. @nhswebsite #nhs #careworkers @kindred_social.

The cause is no doubt a special one for Peter as wife Emily is a doctor on the NHS frontline.

Over in Essex, Stacey Solomon thanked the brave workers for their ongoing efforts.

Sharing a loved-up snap of herself and boyfriend Joe Swash, Stacey said: "No matter what has happened this week, never forget, you are enough.

Give now to The Sun's NHS appeal

BRITAIN’s four million NHS staff are on the frontline in the battle against coronavirus.

But while they are helping save lives, who is there to help them?

The Sun has launched an appeal to raise £1MILLION for NHS workers. The Who Cares Wins Appeal aims to get vital support to staff in their hour of need.

We have teamed up with NHS Charities Together in their urgent Covid-19 Appeal to ensure the money gets to exactly who needs it.

The Sun is donating £50,000 and we would like YOU to help us raise a million pounds, to help THEM. No matter how little you can spare, please donate today here: www.thesun.co.uk/whocareswinsappeal.

Kate Garraway, Vicky McLure, Molly-Mae Hague, Tommy Fury and Scarlett Moffatt also got involved in Thursday's moving event.

Coronavirus was officially deemed a global pandemic earlier this month, and has claimed the lives of thousands of people across the world.

In the UK, the NHS are working tirelessly and risking their own lives to try and battle the killer virus.
