STARS paid tribute to Captain Tom Moore today as he received a Pride of Britain after raising more than £28m for the NHS.

The World War II veteran was awarded the gong on Good Morning Britain by Carol Vorderman and tributes were shared by Queen Elizabeth, Ray Winstone, Bear Grylls, Rita Ora and Micahel Sheen.

Carol left Capt Tom, 99, speechless with the award when he appeared on screen to chat to GMB presenters Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan.

He said: "That is absolutely amazing.

"It’s very difficult for me to believe something like this because the Pride of Britain award is a very important one. You are all so very very kind.

"I thank all the people who nominated me for the award. I am very humbled by receiving this magnificent award.

"I’m completely taken aback by this because I know it’s such an important award."

Viewers were left in tears watching Captain Tom's humility and attitude as he was honoured.

He will celebrate his 100th birthday on April 30, after raising the huge amount for NHS charities by walking laps of his garden and inspiring tens of thousands to donate to the NHS as it battles coronavirus.

His original target was £1,000, but Captain Tom’s JustGiving page has now raised over £28million from more than 1.3 million donations.
