ROO-TURN TO WORK

Builders are back working on Wayne and Coleen Rooney’s mansion ‘to install underground tunnel, bunker and getaway car’

BUILDERS have returned to Wayne and Coleen's £20 million mansion in Cheshire to continue renovations.

Work on their lavish home came to a halt following the coronavirus crisis, but has now resumed.

As well as a state-of-the-art security system, the couple are said to be having an underground tunnel installed as well as a bunker where they will keep a getaway electric car.

The safety precautions are being taken after Wayne and his family suffered an attempted burglary at their old £6million home in 2016.

Coleen, 34, is said to have had "sleepless nights" after the incident, and was understandably worried about their children's safety.

Robert McNamara from Scarborough, North Yorkshire, admitted attempting to enter as a trespasser at the ex-England ace's family home in Prestbury, Cheshire, with intent to steal on August 3, 2016.

The former serviceman was jailed for two years and eight months.

Following the scare, the couple set about building their dream home and ensured the security was top of their priorities.

As previously revealed by The Sun last year, Wayne requested a panic bunker be built into the home over fears of his family will be hit by another burglary.

The bunker will apparently have a CCTV monitoring room, kitchen and toilet for a guard and a secure pick-up area.

Inside the mansion, the lower ground floor will be a TV room, snooker room, bar, wine store, cinema, gym, spa bath, swimming pool, plunge pool, and steam room.

While the main entrance and reception halls, kitchen, dining room, family room, study and library will be on the ground floor.

The new ‘Wayne’s World’ will even boast an underground tunnel to his enormous garage for six cars so he doesn’t have to get his hair wet.

Earlier this year, The Sun Online reported that Wayne was even having a full-size football pitch installed at the epic property.

The ex-England star has laid down a full-size artificial pitch in his back garden - complete with a seating area.

In new pictures, builders were seen back on site at the Cheshire property - no doubt going as quick as they can so that the couple and their four sons can move into their luxury abode.

On Monday, mum-of-four Coleen took to Instagram to wish her mum Colette a happy birthday.

Sharing a snap of them together, the WAG captioned the snap: "Happy Birthday mum. We love you 😘❤️."
