Kate's husband Derek, 52, was taken into hospital on April 1, where he tested positive for Covid-19, and still remains in intensive care six weeks on.

She said: "So our #nhsclap was a little different tonight.

"We still clapped & cheered as much as ever but I couldn’t film on my phone as had Derek on FaceTime throughout!

"Of course we can’t KNOW but I believe he can hear us & thought at least the incredible @nhs team’s looking after him would hear a fraction of our gratitude."

Mum-of-two Kate went on to reveal her son Billy had made his dad a present in a heart-wrenching video shared on Instagram.

The schoolboy had made his entire family out of Lego figures including Kate, Derek, his sister Darcey and both sets of grandparents.

She explained: "Billy made this for his Dad’s carers to show how much he means to our family & to say thank you for fighting to bring him back to us.

"I am hoping they will let Derek have it by his bed. But even if they can’t THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts - you are superheroes.

"Love to all in these terrible times - the separation from loved ones whatever the reason is so tough . #staystrong #staypositive #keephopealive."

Writing in her latest blog post, the Good Morning Britain presenter said: "I wanted to send a huge thank you to all of you who have sent me such wonderful messages wishing Derek well. It has meant the world to me.

"I am sorry I have not been able to reply to them individually, as I am sure you will understand that I am focusing on my family and Derek right now."
