When is Will Ferrell’s Eurovision film on Netflix? Release date, cast and plot

WILL Ferrell is set to poke fun at Eurovision in a new comedy film for Netflix.

It will be based on the Eurovision Song Contest which began in Switzerland in 1956 and is notorious for outlandish outfits, pyrotechnics, bizarre acts and political voting.

When is Will Ferrell's Eurovision film released on Netflix?

The film was originally going to be released on Netflix May 2020 to coincide with the Eurovision Song Contest.

However, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the film premier has been delayed.

Netflix has yet to announce a set date, but it is expected to come out later this year.

Deadline reported that Will Ferrell will both star in and write the film with the former head writer of Saturday Night Live, Andrew Steele.

Is Will Ferrell a fan of Eurovision?

Will Ferrell is a massive fan of Eurovision and has watched the contest every year since 1999.

In 2018 he was spotted in the audience watching the show in Lisbon, Portugal where Israel's Netta took the top prize with her song Toy.

He also attended the Eurovision final in 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Speaking to 20minutes.fr he said that he first got into the contest when he was visiting Sweden with his Swedish wife and actress Viveca Paulin.

Her cousin suggested watching the show and he's been hooked ever since saying "I find it really interesting. It's often eccentric and original."

What is the plot of Eurovision?

The film follows aspiring Icelandic singers Lars Erickssong and Sigrit Ericksdottir as they are given the chance to represent their country at the Eurovision Song Contest.

The movie screenplay was cowritten by funnyman Will Ferrell, so fans are anticipating for it to be very funny.

Who stars in Eurovision?

Step-Brothers star Will Ferrell will play Icelandic musician Lars Erickssong.

Rachel McAdams, famous for her iconic role in Mean Girls, co-stars as musician Sigrit Ericksdottir.

Former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan will be playing Lars' father, Erick Erickssong.

Dan Stevens, famous for his role in Downton Abbey, will portray Alexander Lemtov.

Katiana will be played by Disney actress and pop star Demi Lovato.
