Where has Zak been in Emmerdale?

Fans were worried Zak had quit the soap for good after his character left in September 2019 to visit Debbie in Scotland following the death of his on-screen wife Lisa in May.

But it was revealed that actor Steve Halliwell - who plays Zak - has been taking a break from the show following a heart operation

Viewers know that Steve had previously taken time off from the role for several months in 2018 after having a pacemaker fitted.

The actor returned to the soap in 2019 in time for Lisa’s tragic death.

Talking to The Sun in an exclusive interview before his comeback last year, Steve explained: "I’m back at work in a few weeks and feeling fitter than ever after having a pacemaker fitted in September. It’s done me the world of good and I feel fantastic.

"Emmerdale have been brilliant throughout and really looked after me. I did have to spend some time in hospital and it was really funny to see the entire Dingle clan around my bed.

“Everyone has been so considerate and I know it sounds a bit of a cliche, but we really are one big happy family.”

He added: “I have some great storylines coming up and I can’t wait to get stuck into filming."
