Kate's husband Derek Draper, 52, has been fighting for his life in intensive care for two months after being struck down by coronavirus.

"We should mention our Kate, our Kate Garraway who was out there clapping last night as usual with her children Darcey and Billy," said Lorraine.

"She has been quite remarkable throughout all this is. As I'm sure you know her husband Derek is still in intensive care.

"He's still with us, there's still hope, but it's very very emotional for her.

"She said last night she's trying to find new ways to stay strong.

"She calls him every night but she's not sure he can hear her. The staff put the phone to his ear.

"I'm sure on some level he does, Kate.

"We're sending you all our love."

Her Good Morning Britain co-stars also praised the 53-year-old for her "moving" message about "keeping hope alive" as they sent their love to critically ill Derek.

Kate, 53, admitted she was said the weekly clap was ending, telling fans it had "been a source of weekly comfort".

She wrote on Instagram: "Hear this might be the last clap for carers so Billy thought we should get the drums out to go out in style!

"Its been such a source of weekly comfort for them & me & I must admit I felt the tears come tonight to think it’s coming to an end while our fear for Derek goes on.

"But even if we don’t clap next Thursday it won’t diminish my eternal thanks to all in the #NHS. They are keeping Derek alive & every one of them is fighting as hard as Derek is to give us the chance to be reunited.

"Hope has to keep us all going doesn’t it? I am having to find new ways of staying strong everyday for Darcey & Billy, as I know Derek would want me to.

"It’s not easy but when I think of how hard Derek is fighting & the bravery of all in the #NHS it helps."

Kate added: "Thanks so much for all your messages... Standing together & learning from each other has to get us all through. #hope #love #clapthecarers"

The Good Morning Britain presenter was seen wiping away tears during Thursday evening's clap, before she embraced her 14-year-old daughter Darcey.

Darcey and 10-year-old Billy sat on the wall of their front garden as they banged on drums, with Kate waving bells to make as much noise as possible in a showcase of her support for carers.
