Netflix confirms The Umbrella Academy season 2 release date and hints at epic Luther Hargreeves transformation

NETFLIX has confirmed the release date of The Umbrella Academy season 2 and has hinted at a huge transformation for Luther Hargreeves.

After months of silence regarding when the streaming platform was planning to drop the next series, Netflix finally have a date and also tweeted an image of a character whose identity has not yet been revealed.

It has been confirmed today that the superhero TV series will arrive on Netflix on July 31st, more than a year after the first series aired.

The show is based on the comic book series created and written by Gerard Way and published by Dark Horse Comics.

Steve Blackman will remain the showrunner and Jeff F. King, Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, Gerard Way, and Gabriel Bá will serve as additional executive producers.

Will the surviving kids work together to solve the mystery surrounding their father's death?

Earlier today, Netflix tweeted a picture of what appeared to be an image that looks like Tom Hopper's torso.

If it is indeed Tom, the picture could be very significant in highlighting a massive transformation to more human-looking for the new season, as his character Luther took on a monstrous mutation in season 1.

The program wrapped filming for the second series last November, which the 35-year-old confirmed on his Instagram.

He wrote: "Our crew on [The Umbrella Academy] are some of the hardest working I've ever come across.

"They work insane hours to help make the show what it is. We are two days away from the end of shooting season 2, and this crew have done us immensely proud.

"We can't thank you enough for the hard work you all put in. Round of applause for all the guys like these two who are the real family of superheroes behind [The Umbrella Academy]."

Last month, The Umbrella Academy's showrunner Steve Blackman has released a first look photo of season two - including a totally different Diego.

While fans are still waiting to find out when the next season will drop, things have obviously take a strange turn for the family.

Blackman confirmed that post-production is still going ahead on the Umbrella Academy despite the coronavirus pandemic disrupting other shows.

He captioned the image: "Even #corona can't stop an Umbrella Academy Mix! But I swear we're washing our hands..."

The Umbrella Academy series 2 airs on Netflix from July 31st.
