Costa Coffee temporarily shut all of its 2,700 stores on March 23 due to coronavirus, even though it was allowed to stay open for takeaway orders.

Over the past two months, the coffee chain has kept some stores inside hospitals open to serve NHS staff, but recently has been reopening some branches to the general public.

It initially opened four stores at the end of April, and then opened a further 29 stores earlier this month.

You can also order a Costa delivery via Uber Eats - there is no minimum delivery spend but you'll need to pay a delivery fee of £3.50 per order.

Jill McDonald, chief executive of Costa, said: “We have received some great feedback from our store team members and customers have responded well to our new ways of working. This has given us the confidence to re-open some more stores.”

The company said that for those customers visiting a takeaway store, they will look and feel quite different.

Costa has made a number of changes to protect its staff and customers, including restricting the number of people allowed in at once, and asking people to use social distancing when queuing.

Once you are inside, there will be a hand sanitiser station for customers to use and only one customer will be allowed to the counter at a time, which have been fitted with perspex screens.

Staff will also be wearing masks and other personal protective equipment.
