COSTA Coffee has reopened 75 more shops this week and it plans to reopen a further 58 next week.

The coffee chain had temporarily shut the majority of its 2,700 stores on March 23 due to coronavirus, even though it was allowed to stay open for takeaway orders.

The only branches that remained open were those in hospitals.

But now Costa Coffee has 219 branches currently open in the UK after the coffee chain reopened 70 stores over the past four weeks.

Of the stores reopening this week, Costa Coffee says all 75 are drive-thrus, while the 58 reopening on May 28 will also be drive-thrus.

This means all of Costa's drive-thrus will have reopened by the end of May apart from a "small number" operated by Roadchef, which won't reopen until June.

The reopened stores that aren't drive-thrus are split between a mixture of takeaway stores, delivery stores, and hospital branches.

At the takeaway outlets, customers are allowed to enter the store and order and collect a coffee to takeaway.

Stores will, however, only be accepting cashless and contactless payments.

Meanwhile, at the delivery stores, customers aren't allowed into the shops - they instead have to order coffees to their home via Uber Eats.

There is no minimum delivery spend but you'll need to pay a delivery fee of £3.50 per order.

The coffee shop says stores will temporarily be selling a core drinks menu and a limited food range only, although it adds that it is "working hard" to introduce more lines.

Costa Coffee says all its workers are provided with protective equipment, including masks, and have to follow strict social distancing guidelines.

Staff will also be expected to wash their hands and work surfaces every 30 minutes as a minimum.

Use Costa's store locator tool to find your nearest or check if you can get a delivery via Uber Eats.
