McDonald’s opens 15 restaurants for delivery today – see the full list

MCDONALD’S is reopening 15 restaurants for delivery orders today, in what will be the first locations to start serving up food following the coronavirus shutdown.

It means Big Mac fans will finally be able to get their fast food fix - but only if they live near a reopened branch.

Which McDonald’s restaurants are reopening for delivery?

McDonald’s has confirmed the following 15 restaurants will reopen for delivery orders only today, May 13.

The locations are as follows:

  • Chelmsford Riverside
  • Chelmsford Westway
  • Ipswich Cardinal Park
  • Boreham Interchange
  • Luton Leagrave
  • Watford Hertfordshire Arms

The list of branches caused outrage among some fans in the north of the UK, who claimed there is a "southern bias".

But McDonald’s explained that there is a reason why no branches will be opening in the north yet - and it's to do with distribution and food safety.

A spokeswoman said: “These 15 restaurants were chosen for their proximity to our distribution centre as we slowly but safely seek to reopen our restaurants and restart our supply chain.

"Rest assured we are working hard to reopen more restaurants across the UK and Ireland at the right time.”

How can I order from McDonald's?

Customers will only be able to order via Uber Eats, as dining areas remain closed to the public.

McDonald's has also temporarily suspended its click and collect service through the My McDonald's app.

When ordering through Uber Eats, keep in mind that you'll have to pay a delivery fee on top of your order.

This will vary depending on how far away from the restaurant you are.

McDonald's has also introduced a spending limit of £25 to help manage demand.

This cap doesn't include your delivery fee.

Newly reopened restaurants will be open from 11am to 10pm.

Can I still order everything from the McDonald's menu?

McDonald's will be running a limited menu, due to having less staff in kitchens at one time.

The good news is you'll be able to get fan favourites such as Big Macs and McNuggets.

However, some fans were left gutted after discovering the reduced menu didn't include any breakfast options.

When will more McDonald's restaurants reopen?

McDonald's will be reopening 40 drive-thru lanes next week, on Wednesday, May 20.

Sadly, McDonald’s hasn’t released a full list of drive-thru locations.

But the fast food chain told The Sun more details will be coming next week.

In the meantime, Maccies has said that ten of the 40 branches are from the 15 who will be offering delivery.

This means there will be 45 restaurants reopened for either drive-thru, delivery, or both, by next Wednesday.

This includes five doing just delivery, 30 new ones just for drive-thru and ten offering both services.

McDonald's has yet to confirm when restaurants will fully reopen for customers to sit in and eat.

The company also hasn't revealed the locations of the next batch of restaurants that'll reopen for delivery orders.

What safety measures does McDonald's have in place?

McDonald’s has installed perspex screens in kitchen areas to help workers maintain a safe distance.

Staff are also being given gloves and face masks, and will have their temperatures checked before each shift.

Customers will also be asked to pay for their food with card and contactless payments where possible.

The Sun had previously seen a leaked memo sent to McDonald's employees, which said the fast food chain had been testing social distancing measures and personal protective equipment.

When did McDonald's close its restaurants?

McDonald's temporarily shut all 1,350 restaurants on March 23.

Speaking at the time, Paul Pomroy, CEO of McDonald’s UK & Ireland, said: "Over the last 24 hours, it has become clear that maintaining safe social distancing whilst operating busy takeaway and drive-thru restaurants is increasingly difficult.

"Therefore, we have taken the decision to close every restaurant in the UK and Ireland by 7pm on Monday March 23, at the latest."
