THE UK is set to sizzle this week with temperatures hotter than Bondi beach, Australia.

Highs of 24C are expected ahead of the Easter weekend - but Brits staying safe indoors during the coronavirus lockdown will struggle to enjoy them.

On Sunday, highs of 22C beamed over London and Porthmadog in Wales - with many Brits flouting the lockdown measures to bask in the sunshine.

Many were seen drinking beers outside or sunbathing in parks and beaches, as cops spoke to groups who chose to flout social distancing measures.

It comes as hot air blowing north from the west coast of Africa makes its way towards Britain, bringing temperatures of 24C later in the week.

HEATWAVE

The UK is set be hotter than Australia's Bondi (22C) and the Mediterranean - where Barcelona is seeing 17C.

Met Office forecaster Steven Keates told the Sun Online last night: "Today's temperatures were comfortably the highest we've seen so far - and since October 1 last year.

"There's a chance we will see higher temperatures of 23C or 24C on Wednesday and Thursday in central south eastern England.

"Monday and Tuesday are likely to be milder at 18C or 19C."

The Easter weekend is set to stay warm, although slightly unsettled, with the south of England and inland areas getting the best of the sunshine.

Showery patches are expected across the country, with cooler patches up north.

According the Met Office, the weather will be mostly dry and sunny across the country from Tuesday until Thursday, with a weakening band of rain expecting in the north west.

'STAY INSIDE'

Meanwhile, Matt Hancock threatened to ban all outdoor exercise if people don't follow the rules.

After photographs of people ignoring the rules emerged, the Heath Secretary came out to remind them why Britain is in a strict lockdown.

Addressing the nation in today's daily coronavirus briefing, he said: "To the small minority who are breaking rules - you are risking your own life and the lives of others, and making it harder for us all."
