Afghan Carrying 23 Official Passports Detained In Islamabad

An Afghan national was taken into custody on Friday at Benazir Bhutto Airport in Islamabad after officials discovered 23 passports in his possession.

According to Dawn News, the individual, Azeemullah, was intercepted when he was about to board a Kabul-bound flight.

Airport officials told Dawn News that the suspect was taken into custody after an intelligence agency pointed him out.

Dawn News stated officials further said that 22 passports belonged to Afghan government officials and one to an Afghan civilian. All passports were stamped with Japanese visas.

In a separate incident, Pakistani Interior Ministry said it had detained an Pakistani official on charges of sexually harassing an Afghan woman.

Pakistani Interior Ministry said a Pakistani Federal Bureau of Investigation official had been suspended and arrested for the alleged sexual harassment of an Afghan woman at the Benazir Bhutto Airport in Islamabad.

Pakistani media reports that the woman, along with her sister, arrived at Benazir Bhutto Airport in Islamabad but were not able to provide officials with a phone number for the hotel they had been booked to stay at.

The two women were then held in an interrogation room for five hours. Eventually, the official told her to follow him to get her passport stamped but instead took her somewhere else where allegedly harassed her.

The Afghan embassy in Pakistan has called for a thorough investigation into the incident and for the official to be prosecuted.
