Managers to receive red and yellow cards for misconduct in 2018-19

Premier League managers will be issued verbal cautions for misconduct committed in the technical area

Red and yellow cards will be issued to managers and coaches for misconduct in the technical area this season.

Premier League bosses will receive verbal cautions for "irresponsible behaviour" in the 2018-19 campaign.

But in the FA Cup, Football League, EFL Cup, EFL Trophy and National League, they will be shown cards.

Accumulating cautions will also lead to various suspensions, with four bookings warranting a one-match ban up to 16 resulting in a misconduct charge.

Previously, match officials only had the power to warn officials before sending them to the stands for more serious incidents.

Cards can be issued for actions including inappropriate language or gestures towards match officials, kicking or throwing water bottles, sarcastic clapping and waving imaginary cards.

This season will also see the introduction on competition-specific suspensions for players, rather than cautions carrying across multiple competitions.

    Watch it be applied with the force of a wet lettuce, they ran a campaign of respect towards Refs and we were told that players needed to address the Refs properly and not surround them, well watching the World Cup, watching the European Cup and Premier League they died a death quick than a Brexit plan. Would be nice to see but dont hold your breath.

    Shame that they can't be a little more inventive with the punishment. Instead of a yellow card, for instance, make the manager hop on one leg up and down the touchline. For a red card offence, he has to wear a baby's bonnet and sit in a high chair with a rattle and a teddy bear. Behaviour would soon improve.

    So many stupid comments lamenting refs for their decisions and punishing them. I’d love to see you try and referee a game of football between 22 men in a park let alone a premier league stadium in front of thousands. You wouldn’t last 5 minutes.

    1. No player to stand within 2 metres of the ref after a decision.
    2. Players have ten seconds to withdraw 10 metres after a free kick is given.
    3. Ten minute sin bin.
    4. Ban subs from entering the playing area to celebrate goals.
    5. An end to the time consuming farce of refs holding up free kicks and corners to lecture players in the penalty area. Let the kick be taken and punish accordingly.

    competion-specific suspension!?Let's say someone commits a horrific leg-breaker or spits in someone's face in R3 FA Cup..his team go on to lose..are we saying that a 5 match ban will only apply to FA Cup?&that player can play 4 his team the following Saturday?&what happens if his team lose in 3rd Round the following year?Could we have to wait a possible 5 years before the suspension is complete!?

    In rugby, the coaches are banned from even talking to or approaching the ref. When the ref talks to the players, the near-universal reply is: "Yes sir". Football needs more Gary Linekers. One of the most successful players we ever had and never picked up a yellow card. Coaches use the phrase: "Good yellow card". There is no such thing. Their cynicism sickens me. Footballers are to blame not refs!

    Nothing was done about the promised clamp down on players last season, so I don't believe this will really happen either.......
    Players arguing with, and in refs faces as an example, and nothing done about it. Absolutely disgraceful behaviour. The FA need to fully and properly back the Refs, or just stop 'pretending' to try and sort out the unnaceptable behaviours on the pitch.

    Why not the premier league too? Surely it should be especially premier league managers getting these cards to lead by example?

    Ref’s, managers and players should also be open to retrospective punishment. Until that happens the diving, cheating and general bad sportsmanship will continue.

    It's down to the lack of respect in modern day football.

    Some of the stuff you see in football is mad with players regularly squaring up to refs/linesmen and intimidating/abusing them.

    The FA need to introduce a rule that sees anyone doing any of that sent off immediately and fined 2 weeks wages.

    First few games might end up with 6 men on the pitch, but they'll soon learn.

    How about giving out fines proportional to the offending club's revenue? It's just a token pittance for the premier league clubs at this point.

    Make it a proper deterrant and give the money straight to grassroots football, win win.

    Total nonsense! More time wasted; spectators are consistently being deprived of 20 plus minutes of play. Soccer must follow other games in stopping time-wasting/cheating by introducing a clock. If the ball is not in play the clock stops - simple! Fans get more football, refs are free from the random 'time added' nonsense and cheats do not prosper and - the game is not stopped during play.

    I think spitting on the field of play should be a yellow card. It’s disgusting behaviour that is much overlooked. It’s vile. Footballers need to have manners. The red needs to grow bigger balls and stand up to them!

    Would be better if red and yellow cards were issued to the players as well, some of the crap they get away with is ridiculous.

    If the same player commits multiple fouls, no action
    If a player or players barrack the referee, no action
    Obvious over exaggerating a trip or fall, no action

    These things make the game a laughing stock and should be punished

    This will change absolutely nothing. The top level game is riddled with way too much money, cheating and a lack of respect for officials. They are in their own bubble, detached from normal society....
