NRL: Newcastle Knights consign Brisbane to third consecutive loss

George Vlotis

A heated scuffle has closed the curtains on the Knights 26-12 victory over the Broncos as tensions boiled over on the stroke of full-time at McDonald Jones Stadium.

After stacking on three unanswered tries in the first half, Nathan Brown’s men put themselves in the box seat, before they were forced into damage control by a spirited Brisbane comeback.

While Milford looked out of sorts at fullback in the opening half, his energy in the second lifted Brisbane as Thomas Flegler and Kotoni Staggs found themselves across the line shortly after half-time.

The late scratching of Kalyn Ponga due to injury saw Mason Lino feature in the halves. The 25-year-old stormed across for his first for Newcastle midway through the second to put the nail in the coffin for Anthony Seibold’s men.
