Netflix is apparently in talks for new TV shows from Barack and Michelle Obama

Jesus, Netflix really isn’t kidding about its ongoing near-manic attempts to boost its public profile, huh? The New York Times reports today that the streaming service is reportedly in “advanced talks” with former President Barack Obama about creating content for its library, with a number of potential shows apparently up on the formerly presidential block. Obama’s programs—which he’d produce in association with his wife, Michelle—would reportedly focus, unsurprisingly, on inspirational stories, or possibly on issues-driven debate, rather than America’s current and tenuous political state.

Of course, this isn’t the first time the former president has graced Netflix’s pages in recent months; he served as the first guest on Dave Letterman’s new show, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, earlier this year. The details of any possible deal are still being hammered into place, but it’s not like the Obamas’ obvious charisma, or popularity among the American left, has faded much over the last year; if nothing else, it’d be a nice change of pace to have a public figure go from the White House and into the world of reality TV, instead of the other way around.
