Here is the Motorola One, not to be confused with the Motorola One Power

Back at the end of May, AndroidHeadlines exclusively revealed details about an upcoming smartphone from Motorola, the Motorola One Power, in addition to providing the first proper look at the new phone thanks to an official press render. Since then, more details have come through on the Motorola One Power, reconfirming the claims originally made. Now, AndroidHeadlines can confirm more details about Motorola’s upcoming plans for its 2018 own-branded smartphones.

Meet the Motorola One

On first impression, you might be forgiven for assuming the image above is showcasing the Motorola One Power, but it’s not. As AndroidHeadlines has been provided with information from a reliable source that the phone shown will arrive as the Motorola One. In other words, it’s a separate handset to the Motorola One Power, although that is not to say they will be launched separately. What is more important to note is the existence of the Motorola One highlights how Motorola is planning to unveil at least two phones which will collectively form the Motorola One line. While not confirmed by the source, it stands to reason this particular model will be the standard Motorola One phone for 2018, and this brings us to the first main difference between the two.

Size matters

AndroidHeadlines has been told the Motorola One is a smaller phone when compared to the Motorola One Power. At present, it’s not entirely clear if this means smaller in terms of the display, or smaller in regards to the thickness of the device, or both. There have been some suggestions that the use of the “Power” name is likely to result in a model that focuses more heavily on battery life and while there are no new details on this, if correct, this would further add to the suggestion that with a lesser-capacity battery, the standard Motorola One will arrive as a slimmer device. This could also mean more devices will eventually launch under the Motorola One name with an emphasis on other main features.

Largely similar design with some minor cosmetic differences

Generally speaking, the Motorola One looks a lot like the Motorola One Power. It has the same front panel (which also includes a notch), as well as an edge-to-edge type of design. Likewise, the back panel is once again almost identical to the Motorola One Power, due to the same Motorola logo (which may double as a fingerprint sensor), and a dual rear camera setup in the top-left corner. However, this does not seem to be the exact same two-sensor module as comparing the images highlights that unlike the Motorola One Power (where the two cameras and flash are included in one module), the Motorola One’s cameras are separated. You can take a closer look at the subtle differences between the two models in the image below.

While this may just be a purely cosmetic difference, it also may prove to be more than that. As it could be the case the camera spec configuration is totally different on the Motorola One. Although this is just speculation at the moment.

Motorola going all-in with Android One

When first revealed, the Motorola One Power was notable as it was clear the company was returning to using the Motorola branding for the first time in a long time. In contrast to the “Moto” branding that has been in use over the last few years. The incoming arrival of the Motorola One further suggests the return of the Motorola branding is not a one-time affair. Further still, the use of “Motorola One” is not a singular thing but something the company is likely looking to build on going forward as a new line. One of the reasons for this could be the use of Android One. As both the Motorola One Power and the Motorola One are phones that come running on Google’s One operating system. While not confirmed, this does lend further support to the idea the Motorola One series is designed to be Motorola’s Android One-specific lineup going forward.

Specs unknown, but multiple colors coming

There has so far been little information made available on the Motorola One due to the emphasis on the Motorola One Power. Likewise, no firm details on the specs will be provided here. However, recently the specs leaked for the Motorola One Power and it might be a fair assumption to make that the two phones will not differ that much underneath. If this assumption does prove correct, then the Motorola One Power specs are a good place to start with. On that note, the Motorola One Power is expected to come equipped with a 6.2-inch display along with a 19:9 aspect ratio and a 2280 x 1880 resolution. Inside, the Motorola One Power will feature a minimum of 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, 5- and 12-megapixel rear cameras, an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 3,780 mAh battery. What is clear from today’s leak is the Motorola One will arrive in more than one color. There will, of course, be the black model, and AndroidHeadlines has also been provided with additional images that highlight what seems to be a white variant as well. It is unclear if these will be the only color options available, and it is equally unclear as to whether the likes of the Motorola One Power will be available in the same additional colors.
