New ToeJam & Earl game hits fundraising goal on Kickstarter

The creators of ToeJam & Earl managed to meet their fundraising goal for ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove, a new game in the quirky, 24-year-old franchise, in the final days of their Kickstarter campaign. Developer Humanature Studios aimed to raise at least $400,000 to fund development of its new ToeJam & Earl.

The ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove Kickstarter campaign comes to a close on Friday, March 27. As of this writing, the developer has raised more than $413,000 from more than 7,300 backers. Humanature has a list of stretch goals, including old school skins for ToeJam and Earl at $425,000 and console versions starting at $600,000.

ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove is intended for release on Linux, Mac and Windows PC, but doesn't have an estimated launch date. The developer plans to ship physical rewards for certain backers later this year.

Humanature plans to make a new game in the series that they say plays like the original ToeJam & Earl, but also borrows some elements from the sequel, Panic on Funkotron. The studio also plans to include four-player co-op, both online and offline, and some meta-game mechanics in Back in the Groove.
