Kingdom Hearts 3 will feature Disney's Big Hero 6

The world of Disney's animated feature Big Hero 6 and its puffy hero Baymax will be featured in Kingdom Hearts 3, Square Enix's Shinji Hashimoto announced at the D23 Expo today. Players, as Sora, will be able to team up with Baymax to battle enemies and form a friendship with the inflatable robot.

Hashimoto described Big Hero 6's characters and fictional city of San Fransokyo as "a perfect fit for Kingdom Hearts." He unveiled concept art of Sora riding on the back of Baymax, wielding his keyblade as they flew over San Fransokyo. The two appeared to be battling a dark version of Baymax. Hashimoto said that the development team thought it would be interesting if the antagonists in Kingdom Hearts 3 would — spoiler alert! — use the powers of darkness on the old Baymax left behind in the portal, as featured in the film.

Roy Conli, producer of Big Hero 6 and Tangled, said the game world as seen in Kingdom Hearts 3 will take place after the events of the movie. It will touch on the themes of friendship and light over darkness.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Square Enix did not provide any new release date information on the game at D23.
