VMworld 2018
Welcome to the first post from Las Vegas of my coverage of VMworld 2018!  Sunday is usually pretty light since everyone is just getting into town and getting their badges and backpacks.  There’s a few events going on around town of course but it’s low-key compared to the rest of the week.  This year feels bigger and bolder so far.  There’s a ton of people here.  I’d say it almost looks busier than last year.  Let’s check out the pictures!

VMworld 2018 – Sunday

We just landed and are on the way to the hotel.

A cool digital art installation at the hotel.

VMworld 2018Decent view from my room at The Delano.

VMworld 2018A nice shot of the Mandalay Bay.

VMworld 2018There’s the pool and right behind that is the convention center where all the festivities are.

VMworld 2018It’s busy for early Sunday afternoon.  This is the long hallway to the convention center.

VMworld 2018They moved the check-in and registration out into the hallway which I thought was a bit of an odd choice but it seems to be working out ok.  The lines were a little longer than I’d like but they cleared out pretty  quickly.

VMworld 2018 Huge screens everywhere cycling through different content.

They expanded the lounge areas quite a bit and included the backpack pickup area but the layout is pretty similar to last year.  The Solutions Exchange wasn’t open at the time I went by.

VMworld 2018The VMworld display is interactive.  I’ll get a better picture of it later in the week.  I think the lit up VMworld sign from last year may have been better visually.

VMworld 2018There’s an interactive challenge to win additional swag.  I didn’t get a chance to inquire further when I picked up my bag but I plan on it today.

VMworld 2018Here’s my blogger badge with 2 pieces of flair.  I haven’t reached the minimum 17 pieces of flair yet.

VMworld 2018When I came back to my room I had a little gift on my table.  A RFID blocking wallet, battery pack charger and a nice pen.   It’s interesting they’re allowed to come into your room like that.  I know the security is heightened and I’ve heard they’re making random checks.

VMworld 2018Here’s the new VMworld 2018 backpack.  It’s a really high quality backpack.  I think I like last year’s backpack a little better but this one is a close second.

VMworld 2018I thought I was seeing things when I walked by this.  They have drone racing!  This is awesome.  I’m going to have to try this if the line ever diminishes enough.  This is already crazy popular.

I’ll have to get by here this week and see if my posts show up on the big boards.

VMworld 2018Jumbo size Battleship!  Awesome!

VMworld 2018 They’ve got all kinds of games including arcade games, foosball and even cornhole.

VMworld 2018They even have an adult size teeter totter.  LOL

VMworld 2018 First happy hour of the day outside the Border Grill and a nice shot of the hotel.  Everything looks so close but it’s so very far away.

VMworld 2018We went down the strip to the Palazzo for dinner and ended up at SushiSamba.  I’ve eaten here a few times before and we took a few customers out with us this time.

VMworld 2018Dinner was amazing and we all got a nice start to the week.

So that’s it for Sunday.  This week is a marathon so we took it easy and got a good nights sleep.  So much happening on Monday so stay tuned for the next post in this series.  Thanks for reading!
