The New York Police Department has opened a criminal investigation into Harvey Weinstein, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
“Based on information referenced in published news reports the NYPD is conducting a review to determine if there are any additional complaints relating to the Harvey Weinstein matter. No filed complaints have been identified as of this time and as always, the NYPD encourages anyone who may have information pertaining to this matter to call the CrimeStoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS,” police told THR in a statement.
On Tuesday, Weinstein added criminal defense attorney Blair Berk to his legal team. Berk is a West Hollywood-based attorney with past clients that include Mel Gibson, Lindsay Lohan, Kiefer Sutherland and Kanye West.
Los Angeles police told THR on Thursday morning there are still no investigations into Weinstein.
London police also on Thursday said the department opened an investigation on Weinstein.
“We can confirm we received a report at 8:40 a.m. on Wednesday (11 October 2017) of an alleged sexual assault in the London area in the 1980s,” London police said in a statement.
In a bombshell exposé from The New Yorker, which came out Tuesday, three women accused the movie mogul of forced oral and vaginal sex. The piece, by NBC correspondent Ronan Farrow, included on-the-record quotes from actresses Asia Argento, Lucia Evans and Mira Sorvino.
Weinstein denied those allegations, saying in a statement to the magazine through his spokesperson that “any allegations of nonconsensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein.”
Days before The New Yorker piece, the New York Times rocked Hollywood with its own investigation into Weinstein in which the Miramax co-founder was accused of sexual harassment from multiple women, including actress Ashley Judd.
Weinstein has since been fired from his own company and condemned within the industry.
Numerous A-list actors, both women and men, have blasted Weinstein for his alleged behavior.
