What Is Kate Middleton's Relationship Like With Other Royal Women?

Kate Middleton's warm and fond relationship with Queen Elizabeth II is well reported, and the duchess has spoken of how the matriarch of the family has taken her under her wing — but what about her relationships with the other royal ladies? Kate and Prince William were together for eight years before they got married (and have now been husband and wife for a further six), so Kate has had plenty of time to form firm relationships with many of them, as well as beginning to forge bonds with royal ladies from fellow European monarchies. See how each of those personal and professional partnerships have played out so far.

Both women are "commoners" who have married into the royal family, and both were with their respective partners for almost 10 years before tying the knot, which has led to two of the most stable royal marriages of the past few decades. There have been rumors — of course there have — that the two don't get on, but the two women are in fact very fond of each other and are often spotted giggling and catching up at royal get-togethers. They both shop for costume jewelry at Heavenly necklaces, their joint favorite hat designer is Jane Taylor, and they often go to Wimbledon together.

Camilla has been a guide and mentor to royal life for Kate, and the two women are very close. Just before the royal wedding, Camilla took Kate for lunch at upscale restaurant Koffmanns, and they were heard laughing and joking together — Camilla also gifted Kate with a charm bracelet as her wedding present. The bracelet is hung with a disc engraved with Kate's initial on one side and Camilla's on the other.

Pictures of the duchess and the princess seem rare, but the equally sporty pair actually spend quite a bit of time together chatting at royal events and were spotted sitting with each other at the Olympics on more than one occasion.

Again there have been rumors that there has been friction between Kate and Beatrice, but there are no real issues between the pair. They aren't the most natural fit (and perhaps wouldn't be BFFs outside of the royal fold), but they have friends in common and have socialized together many times over the years.

As with her big sister, Eugenie isn't particularly close to Kate, but the two do get on and always enjoy a catch up when they see each other. Eugenie is also friendly with both Pippa and James Middleton, and socializes with them away from the royal fold.

William has always been close to his cousin Zara, so much so that she is Prince George's godmother, and Kate gets on very well with her, too. The pair usually gravitate to each other at royal get-togethers, and when William and Kate were tentatively getting back together after their breakup and they attended the Diana Memorial Concert, Kate was sat directly behind Zara and they were spotted chatting together. Prince George and and Zara's daughter Mia are of a similar age, so like their royal parents they have also been playmates since birth.

Kate probably doesn't see Peter Phillips' wife Autumn as much as she sees Zara, but the pair enjoy seeing each other when they do. Both are moms of two who married into the royal family; they have plenty in common.

Like Kate, Sophie Wessex, Queen Maxima, and Princess Mary, Princess Charlene was also a regular citizen who happened to fall in love with a prince. Kate and Charlene met during the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Similarities were drawn between Kate and Mary, as both sleek, photogenic, stylish brunettes came from "normal" backgrounds and married men who would one day be king. Kate and Mary first met when the duchess and Prince William traveled to Denmark in 2011 to visit a UNICEF aid depot with their Danish counterparts and forged a good relationship. They have seen each other intermittently since, most recently at Ascot last year.

Kate first met Queen Maxima at Remembrance Sunday 2015, and the pair caught up again when Kate made her first solo trip overseas — to the Netherlands — last year. The pair seem to get on well but have not yet spent much time together.
