What's Your Favorite Regional Dish You Think Nobody Else Knows About?

Regional foods are often the best hidden gems of any area. Whether it’s North Dakota’s knoephla or shrimp and grits in North Carolina, everywhere has a food of their own, and we want to hear about your favorites.

Personally, one of my favorites is Colorado/New Mexico style green chili. I didn’t even realize it was a regional thing until I left Colorado. Everyone has their own little variation on this of course, but it’s essentially cubed or shredded pork shoulder, a couple dozen roasted green chiles (Hatch, preferably), pureed tomatoes (or tomatillos), and a variety of spices. The end result is a half-stew, half-dipping sauce that can also be put on top of a burrito.

Anyway, that’s me, let’s hear your thoughts. We all know about Chicago’s deep dish pizza and San Francisco’s Mission-style burrito, but what about Detroit’s Boston Cooler? Or Kentucky’s Hot Brown? This isn’t US-exclusive either, of course, so sound off on your favorites from wherever you’re from or wherever you’ve been.
