Great news for Shannen Doherty, and for people who have been following her ridiculously inspiring journey for these past couple of years.

Really, great news for anyone who loves good things.

Shannen’s cancer is in remission!

It’s an incredibly wonderful development in an incredibly sad story, and Shannen shared the news last night in an Instagram post.

"Moments. They happen," she began. "Today was and is a moment."

"What does remission mean? I heard that word and have no idea how to react. Good news? YES. Overwhelming. YES. Now more waiting."

"As every single one of my fellow cancer family knows," she continued, "the next five years is crucial. Reoccurrences happen all the time. Many of you have shared that very story with me."

"So with a heart that is certainly lighter, I wait."

She’s referring to the belief that many doctors have that if a cancer patient remains in complete remission for five years, they’re considered officially "cured" — but those first five years are when the cancer is most likely to return.

"In the meantime," Shannen wrote, "decisions."

She explained that she’ll undergo breast reconstruction, which will require a number of surgeries, and that she has to make a decision "on taking a pill for the next five years that comes with its own sets of problems and side effects."

"I am blessed, I know that," she acknowledged. "But for not…. remission. I’m just going to breathe."

At the end, she added her "cancer slayer" hashtag, which is truer now than ever.

Shannen’s announcement is a wonderful development in a terrifying story, made only more terrifying by the fact that there’s a chance she never had to go through it.

In 2015, the world learned of her cancer diagnosis because she filed a lawsuit against her business manager, claiming that the disease spread because she was uninsured after her manager failed to pay insurance premiums.

In the court documents, Shannen says her doctors told her that had she been able to visit a doctor earlier, the cancer could have been detected earlier.

There’s a good chance she wouldn’t have had to go through all that chemotherapy and the mastectomy, not to mention her cancer wouldn’t have spread to her lymph nodes, requiring more chemo and radiation.

She settled her lawsuit in August of last year for an undisclosed amount, and she kept on fighting through her treatments, as hard and draining as they undoubtedly were.

She’s been a total inspiration through her entire battle, and we don’t expect that to stop anytime soon.

Congrats, Shannen!
