E&C Democrats Release Facebook’s Responses to Questions

June 30, 2018

Tech Giant’s Responses Leave Many Questions

Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) today released Facebook's long-awaited answers to the Committee's outstanding questions for the record. Earlier this year, House members sent hundreds of follow up questions to Facebook after Mark Zuckerberg was unable to answer a number of questions during his hearing before the Committee in April.

Pallone said that he appreciated Facebook's response, but noted that the company's responses raised more questions than they answered.

"After initial review, I am concerned that Facebook's responses raise more questions than they answer," Pallone said. "It appears Facebook still doesn't have an effective system in place to find other ‘Cambridge Analyticas' or even who Cambridge Analytica shared users' data with. It's disconcerting that four months after this scandal became public Facebook still has no idea how many others have its users' data and how that data is being used today."

Earlier this week, Energy and Commerce Democrats sent a letter to Data Propria, a newly formed company that includes several former Cambridge Analytica employees, seeking assurances that the company is not using consumers' data improperly obtained from Cambridge Analytica.
